FAQS.
Everything you need to know.
We’re all about high-energy rides, good vibes and a welcoming community. Here are the answers to the questions we get asked the most.
01. WHAT CLASSES DO YOU OFFER?
We offer classes as either a 30-minute HIIT session, which stands for High Intensity Interval Training, or a longer 45-minute ride.
We start slowly to warm up properly for the first few minutes before building the class with a mixture of hard efforts and shorter recovery sections.
We use rhythm-based moves, sprints, climbs and recovery periods to create a varied, interesting and calorie-burning workout. Every class ends with a short cool-down and stretches.
02. I’M A TOTAL BEGINNER. WHICH CLASS SHOULD I TAKE?
All our classes are suitable for every ability level. You remain in control of how much effort you put in and how much resistance you use on the bike.
You can take things steadily while you build confidence, or choose to push yourself harder. We will not judge either way.
03. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Wear sports clothing that you feel comfortable moving in. Breathable clothing is usually best because spin sessions can get warm.
Some riders prefer padded cycling shorts because they can reduce saddle soreness, particularly when you are new to cycling. Any initial soreness usually improves after your first few rides.
Branded Spin Collective merchandise will also be available to purchase in the studio.
04. WHAT SHOES SHOULD I WEAR?
Our bikes use double-sided pedals. One side has a flat pedal and cage, allowing you to ride in ordinary trainers.
The other side uses a standard two-bolt SPD fitting, sometimes called a mountain-bike-style cleat. SPD cycling shoes clip securely into the pedal and release by twisting your heel outwards.
We do not support SPD-SL road cycling shoes or three-bolt road cleats in the studio.
05. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CLIPPING IN?
With a flat pedal, most of the work comes from your quadriceps pushing down on the pedal.
A pedal cage makes your foot more secure and allows you to engage your hamstrings and glutes more effectively.
When clipped in, you can use a fuller push-and-pull motion, engaging more of the muscles throughout your legs and improving pedalling efficiency.
06. DO YOU RENT SPD SHOES?
We do not rent cycling shoes for hygiene reasons.
You do not need SPD shoes when you first start because ordinary trainers can be used with the pedal cages.
When you become a regular rider, SPD shoes can be a worthwhile investment. We will be happy to advise you on what to buy and where to find them.
07. WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
We recommend bringing a water bottle and a small towel.
The studio has a chilled water cooler that you can use to refill your bottle free of charge.
If you forget either item, do not panic. We keep a small number of spares available to borrow.
08. DO YOU HAVE CHANGING ROOMS, SHOWERS AND A TOILET?
The Spin Collective is an intimate, single-room boutique studio and does not have dedicated changing rooms or showers.
Our sessions are short at either 30 or 45 minutes, so most riders arrive ready to ride and change afterwards at home or at work.
A toilet is available in our neighbouring building should you need to use it.
